GISD in the process of forming a Facilities Planning Committee, consisting of community stakeholders, to assess the facilities within GISD. The purpose of the committee is to gain community input while we study our campus building utilization, student enrollment projections, facility conditions, campus safety and security, equity among school facilities, grade alignment structure, and to consider financial data.

The goal of the committee is to obtain different perspectives from the entire community and have a committee that represents the interests of all students. GISD will be calling a bond election for the May 2025 election, and we value the input of our community in the process.

Only the top 5.5 percent of districts in the state, including GISD, earned the honor this year.

The Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) announced the 94 winners of the 2024 District of Distinction Award. Among the list of honorees is Gainesville ISD. The districts received the honor for providing a well-rounded education that advocates and integrates visual arts curriculum to inspire creativity and build social emotional learning that connect learners to their community and beyond.

TAEA is the leading advocate for the visual arts in the state. The organization has previously honored outstanding TAEA members for work in their classrooms and districts. This is the fifth year that TAEA is honoring districts that meet rigorous criteria as evidenced from data.

For the 2024 award, over 1,200 districts were eligible to apply. Each district submitted documentation they met from the 14-point rubric over the 2023-2024 school year. Only 94 districts met the high standard and will receive the outstanding honor indicating they are in the top 5.5 percent in art education of districts in the state.

News and announcements

As you know, GISD transitioned to a newer version of SchoolStatus this summer.  However, this transition from SchoolStatus Classic to SchoolStatus Connect has been less than ideal.  With a long list of integration issues that has not been shortened throughout the last four weeks, we have made the difficult decision to transition back to SchoolStatus Classic for the time being.

We feel it is in the best interest of our teacher and parents so that you all can effectively communicate with school starting in just a few days.  We will continue to work with SchoolStatus as they work to resolve these widespread issues and will eventually fully transition to Connect and enjoy the benefits it will have to offer.

In the meantime, if you were one of the families who was able to receive messages via text, email, and mobile app, congratulations!  Unfortunately this was not the case for many. In addition, there were many more issues on the school user side.  You may keep the SchoolStatus Connect app but announcements will be sent the same way they were last year.

We apologize for this inconvenience and we are confident that we will have all the benefits of the new SchoolStatus Connect platform soon, including the streamlined communication for all students and teachers through the app.

Here are a few reminders for families of returning students, and important points for those of you who are new to the district and the SchoolStatus communication platform.
