Congratulations to all of our hard working and deserving students in GISD who earned all A's the 3rd 6 weeks of school. 

January is School Board Appreciation Month, and Gainesville Independent School District is proud to honor the seven dedicated individuals who serve on its Board of Trustees for their leadership, service, and commitment to the district’s students and community.

Gainesville ISD board members work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that district policies and decisions support student success and reflect community values. Their leadership plays a vital role in guiding the district’s vision and preparing students to become future leaders.

“Our board members are fantastic and truly care about our schools, our community, and the future leaders we are shaping every day,” said Dr. DesMontes Stewart, superintendent of Gainesville ISD. “Their dedication and thoughtful leadership help ensure that every decision is made with students’ best interests at heart.”

Serving as a school board trustee requires a significant commitment of time and energy. Trustees balance their personal and professional responsibilities while volunteering countless hours to attend meetings, review district initiatives, and engage with staff, families, and community members.

Gainesville ISD extends sincere appreciation to its Board of Trustees for their continued dedication, vision, and service to the district and the community.

Featured on the cover is Emma Franco, 4th grade student at Chalmers Elementary.  Emma is the youngest of the 21 GISD students who have obtained a high school LOTE (Language Other Than English) credit. Read more about this new opportunity for our bilingual students on page 11. 

We are excited to introduce the SMART Tag system for our bus riders!  The system began rollout in the spring and is now used for all bus riders at all campuses. 

Beginning December 13, you can now download the SMART Tag parent app.  Download the app today, available for ios and android.  https://www.qbit.codes/q/smart-tag-parent-app.

App registration begins with the Primary Parent – the parent associated with the student in the school district’s system. The primary parent must complete their app registration and confirm their student before any co-parent can register for them.

Co-parents who wish to register for a student must submit a request to the primary parent within the app. In cases where there’s no response from the primary parent, the school district can review and approve.

Gainesville ISD has scheduled the substitute orientation dates for the Fall.  All subs, both new and returning, are required to attend orientation prior to being approved for employment for the 2025-2026 school year.

There are multiple options available, but subs only have to attend one training.  Orientation will take place from 9 - 10am at the GISD Administration Building located at 900 N. Grand Avenue. Options for the single session required training are July 21, July 28, August 18, September 17, October 22, November 12, December 10, January 7, and February 11.
